The Christening

We were invited to a baby Christening recently as we were asked to be a God parents to baby Freya. It was a lovely and surreal event with everything (including the food) in pink. I just had to document it. There was another couple there who were also God parents and they were both really interesting to talk to and fun, so I just had to take their portrait too.

I’m fascinated by these public halls across our country that are mostly the same size; square generic spaces that the public use for many different celebrations,
anything from, Birthdays, funerals, christenings, Arts & Crafts, sports, Scouts activities and much more.

I love the way people personalise the space for their specific celebrations and I’m intrigued by how the temporary installations they make, (pink balloons, draped tables with pink food, a pink bouncy castle) give new life to these hired halls and how it looks along side more permanent features that these Halls have. It’s this clash of surrounding decor that I see, but most of us now just take for granted. It’s become normalised and continue to be the tapestry backdrop for these important life celebrations.

The Christening series – I cropped to a medium format look. I just felt that they looked more interesting in this format ratio.
